After buying four of Chicago’s shuttered Dominick’s store, Jewel Osco is ready to unveil new features and renovated buildings, following an apparent industry trend.
The grocery chain is kicking off two days of celebrations for new stores. Two former Dominick’s stores will have their first grand openings Tuesday. The others will have grand “re-openings” Wednesday.
Mimicking stores like Mariano’s and Walgreens, Jewel has expanded its approach to offer more than groceries and pharmacy items. Nineteen Chicagoland Jewel Osco stores now have specialty shopping features like juice bars and fudge shops.
“When we were kids, grocery shopping was definitely a “get in and get out” proposition,” Jewel reps wrote in a blog post. “Your Jewel-Osco store is so much more these days.”
Jewel says each new location has surprises. The celebrations begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.
